Plain english editing
We believe words should explain, rather than confuse the reader
Plain English editing requires the ability to translate difficult-to-understand text into simple language which everyone can comprehend.
This usually means that original texts, which are often dry and inaccessible to lay readers, need to be rewritten using simpler words and sentences. Jargon and technical terms also need to be removed.
Our editors are experienced at tackling the most impenetrable texts. By following the principles of plain English they rewrite and recast texts, so they are clear and readable for all possible audiences.
We never alter or change the meaning of text. We do, however, ensure that simple words and sentence structures are used to explain terms and concepts that the average reader might not be familiar with.
Easy Read – Some audiences struggle with literacy and comprehension issues. Easy Read formats use pictures and images to accompany short ‘bite-size’ chunks of texts to explain and interpret documents.
Easy Read documents are particularly important when organisations want to communicate with individuals with learning difficulties, and others who struggle with written English.
Our team has the skills to produce Easy Read formats, often in conjunction with plain English and other editing treatments.
